Oriente (Rainforest)

It occupies an area of 120.000 km2 from the flanks of the Eastern Range to the border with Perú to the South and Colombia to the East.

The immense amount and quality of flora and fauna this tropical rainforest holds is considered as a bastion by ecologists and nature lovers who wish to preserve the region.
Approximately 500 species of trees by hectare have been identified, together with 600 species of fish, 250 species of amphibians and reptiles, 60 species of bats and 1.000 species of birds scattered throughout this prolific territory.
The profuse richness of the topsoil and subsoil in the amazon basin must be put to production with extreme care in order to avoid deteriorating an ecosystem which is unique in the world. The oil and gold production must be developed under strict technical standards so as to protect nature.
The mystery and magic of the sector are added by the multiplicity of races inhabiting the jungle; many tribes are still found in primitive state, with their culture and traditions still intact. We can mention among them the Siona-Secoya, Cofanes, Huaroni, Shuar and Ashuar, among the most known and studied.
